#Memorytamer full#
The default value for this setting is 0 (disabled), but if you do use it, you should set the value above your full memory freeing threshold. This will not try to free up as much memory as a full freeing, but it should be faster than a typical freeing and should cause less slowness than a full plain allocation freeing. This uses the plain allocation method (see Freeing Method) tool, but will also run when the method is set to memory pressure. This setting controls at what amount of free memory MemoryTamer will do a quick "trim" of the memory. The settings for this have been placed directly under Memory Threshold. It would probably be a good idea to avoid using a threshold that it gets back down to quickly. You should set it to be lower than this amount (probably not more than half of it), but it will take some trial and error to figure out what threshold works right.Īnother tip is to pay attention to how quickly the free memory drops after you free it up. This will give you a general idea of what the free memory will go up to when the memory is freed. I would suggest that you try freeing up memory manually, and see how much is free afterwards. The memory threshold can be hard to get right. You can set it to any value from 0 (to disable automatic freeing) up to your maximum system memory (likely somewhere between 1024 (1GB) and 16,384 (16GB)). It is measured in MB (megabytes), so 1024 is one gigabyte. The memory threshold defaults to 1024 when you first start the app.
#Memorytamer manual#
NOTE: MemoryTamer will not run automatic freeing less than 30 seconds after app startup or 60 seconds after the last manual or automatic freeing. It controls at what amount of remaining free memory MemoryTamer will start to automatically free memory. This option is the next pair of items in the Preferences menu, after Notifications. NOTE: if you do not have Growl installed, it will use a backup notification system built into the app for the Growl option.

Notifications are shown when the memory freeing process begins and when it ends. If you are on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or above, it will default to Notification Center with the option to switch to Growl. If you are on OS X 10.7 Lion, it will be set to Growl and not allow changing. It controls which notification system you are using. This option is the pair of menu items that appear at the top of the Preferences menu. As with my other updates, it will be free to existing users. NOTE: I have plans for making a better preferences interface but have not gotten that accomplished yet.
